No. 42 Pencil Sketch (Time Lapse) – “Young Blue Eyes”

No. 42 Pencil Sketch (Time Lapse) – “Young Blue Eyes”

A pencil sketch this week of my middle Grandson. I used a beautiful photo taken by my son (of his son!) (www.cornwalldmc.co.uk), but I don’t really feel that I did justice to the original source photo or to my Grandson in this drawing. My Grandson has the most amazing, huge, pale blue eyes and I really wanted to emphasize them. I therefore decided to make the sketch in graphite pencil except for the eyes, for which I used coloured pencils to emphasize their blueness. Thank you for watching.

No. 41 “Phoebe”- My Cat – Pencil Sketch (Time Lapse)

No. 41 “Phoebe”- My Cat – Pencil Sketch (Time Lapse)

This sketch is of my cat “Phoebe”. I did a watercolour sketch of her back in April (Video No. 8). She has a twin sister “Lilly” and I have done a lot of sketches of her too in the past, but I haven’t yet done a time lapse of her. Being twins they look almost identical, unless of course you know them, as often happens with “identical” twins. It was nice to do a pencil sketch for a change. Hope you enjoy it and thank you for watching. New videos on my Yout Tube channel (Carie Sauze Paintings) every Sunday at 1530 GMT.

No. 40 Two Months Old – Watercolour Time Lapse Sketch

No. 40 Two Months Old – Watercolour Time Lapse Sketch

My baby Grandson is already two months old. In the photo I took this from he had the most adorable (proud Gran talking here!!) expression which I tried hard to capture, I think I got almost there, but the shadows didn’t go right on the left shaded side of his face, never mind next time hopefully it will go better. That’s the great thing about art, you learn something new every time you make art and then it hopefully goes into your “experience” skill set for next time.

I think I will try and do a video every month during my new Grandson’s first year as a record of his progress.

No. 37 My 2019 Inktober Sketchbook

No. 37 My 2019 Inktober Sketchbook

This video has been a huge learning curve on the editing side. I learned a lot more about Premiere Pro which hopefully I’ll remember for future videos. It is the first time I’ve added a voice over and music and I had to look up how to do so many things, and it took me two attempts as I didn’t like the first one, but I got there in the end. I also just realized I called it No.38 in the video whereas in fact it is No. 37!!!!

This is a “Sketchbook Tour” of my Inktober 2019 sketch book. Another first for me was doing “Inktober”. This challenge was started by Jake Parker in 2009 and the idea is to make a sketch every day for the 31 days of October. The only stipulation being that the drawing has to be in some sort of ink, although digital drawings are allowed using “inking” as the medium.

There are lots of different “prompt” lists to choose from or you can make up your own. I chose to use the official prompt list from Jake Parker himself as it was my first year.

I really enjoyed doing the challenge although I did have to do a few days of catch up in the middle, but I completed it on time in the end. My sketches were a mix of from my imagination and for some using source photos as a starting point for inspiration.

I also posted my sketches on Instagram under the hashtags of #Inktober and #Inktober2019. There were some absolutely amazing entrants and there are lots of talented You Tubers videos of Inktober sketchbooks. I will put the links below to my Instagram account. Thank you for watching. Please “like”, “share” and “subscribe” if you wish to see more. Hopefully next Sunday’s will be on time at 1530GMT. See you then. Happy Painting. Carie. x

No. 36 Pumpkin Time – Watercolour Time Lapse Sketch

No. 36 Pumpkin Time – Watercolour Time Lapse Sketch

As it is getting close to Halloween I thought I would make this week’s picture a little seasonal. This is from a photo of my middle son, now father of my new baby Grandson. It was taken many years ago when we lived in California. It’s a painting I have always wanted to do and this sketch has made me want to do a finished painting even more. It is such a lovely scene with the deep blue of the sky and the orange of the pumpkin and the autumn leaves just turning yellow.

No. 35 Four Weeks Old – Watercolour Time Lapse Sketch

No. 35 Four Weeks Old – Watercolour Time Lapse Sketch

Unbelievably my new baby Grandson is already 4 weeks old! A cute little boy and I’ve been lucky to have plenty of hugs.

With every painting I do there is always something with which I am not happy. I can’t always tell what it is straight afterwards, but after a night’s sleep I can usually work it out. I had thought that I had made the cheeks too chubby, but on scrutinizing the picture this morning I realized that I had made the mouth too narrow, just a tiny bit and no one else would probably notice. So if you are doing a portrait and feel there is something wrong, take a breather or put it out of sight for a day or two and when you go back you may suddenly see what needs changing. Another way is to look at your picture in a mirror or upside down. Hope this tip helps. I am still pleased with this little sketch, just know what to check for in the future. Each painting is a learning development on one’s long artistic journey, even when you’ve done hundreds of paintings before!

No. 34 Waiting for the Ferry (Plymouth Sound from Cremyl) – Watercolour Time Lapse Sketch

No. 34 Waiting for the Ferry (Plymouth Sound from Cremyl) – Watercolour Time Lapse Sketch

This Sunday’s time lapse sketch is of the view from just outside Mount Edgcumbe on the waterfront at Cremyl in Cornwall. We are looking out into Plymouth Sound with Drake’s Island in the middle distance and across to the cliffs of Jennicliff in the far distance. I imagined that the girl sitting on the grass on the left is waiting for the Cremyl passenger ferry across to Plymouth, as on sunny days this is where people often sit and wait.

I love trying to make the sun shine in my paintings and (apologies as I may have told this story before!) when I was a child I always got frustrated as the sun never “shone” in my pictures and I remember asking my Mum ‘how to ‘make the sun shine’, she told me to paint in the shadows and that would make the sun shine. Now as an artist I think what good advice she gave me, even though she wasn’t artistic she had noticed what a difference shadows make. So if you are having trouble making the “sun shine” in your pictures then try adding the shadows.

Thank you for watching and as always please “like”, “share” and “subscribe” if you would like to see more of my videos. I try to publish a new video every Sunday at 1530 BST/GMT.

No. 33 Father and Son Stroll – Time Lapse Watercolour Sketch

No. 33 Father and Son Stroll – Time Lapse Watercolour Sketch

Apologies that the lighting is way overexposed on this week’s video. Not sure what went wrong there.

This week’s sketch is of my eldest Son and Grandson walking down to the sea in the village of Kingsand in Cornwall. Kingsand is a beautiful village in south east Cornwall. It is really two villages which join up and run into one. The border between Devon and Cornwall used to run through the middle of Kingsand and there is still a cottage which has a sign showing the original border between the two counties, although both villages are now in Cornwall and the River Tamar marks the border. Kingsand runs into the village of Cawsand and personally I think these two old, notorious smuggling villages are the prettiest in the area. Check out my video “No.13 Watercolour Sketch – Cornish Fishing Village” which is a view of Cawsand from the beach looking towards Kingsand.
